I have been involved in the collision repair business for 24 years now. In that time we have all seen lots of changes in the design and cost of motor vehicles and the design and cost of insurance policies. Motor vehicles are designed for cost to point of sale and not for cost at time of repair. My techs will attest that many vehicle designers know nothing or care nothing about the process involved in repairing that vehicle. Vehicles are also designed for the so called demands of the consumer. Shimmering Colors that take many more processes and time and materials to get a proper match as one such example. We don't have a problem with that as we always come up with a solution but the reality is that the cost of insurance is based on the cost of repairability. This just places a greater cost to insurance. Now insurance companies have always recognized that after the sale of the policy the more money that they keep in their coffers the better for the stock holders and board members and ceos and land acquisitions. To accomplish that goal each company has taken on a different pattern of claims handling while most companies have taken on a similar pattern of policy structure. I will be writing a series of articles dealing with several areas that I beleive the consumer should at least give some thought to. I do not claim to have the individual answer for any of these situations. I only bring this information to the table as material that may help you make better decisions in the future, ask better questions and so your money is spent in the best interest of your particular circumstance.
